The Immigrant Suitcase Project: Italians of Waterbury

A series of changing exhibitions highlighting the immigrant experience of Waterbury's diverse cultural communities.

More about this exhibition

This exhibition showcases objects that provide a glimpse into the lives of Italians who immigrated to Waterbury. The items on view were loaned to the Museum by families in or around the City to represent their stories: people who stayed behind in Italy, the journey to the United States, and aspects of Italian heritage that are still reflected in the lives of the Italian American community today. This incredible collection of unique objects that present family heritage challenges you to think about the choices these Italians made when immigrating to the United States and examine what objects in your life reflect your heritage.
