Who was Kay Sage? How did her work end up at the Mattatuck Museum? What is surrealism? This session investigates the extraordinary life, work, and legacy of Sage, a 20th-century surrealist painter.
Fortune’s Story
Learn about the history of slavery in Waterbury, the life of Fortune, an enslaved man living in 18th century Waterbury, and his death leading to the laying to rest of his bones in the 21st century.
Genealogy
Gain a better understanding of sources at the Museum and how to utilize them for genealogical research. This session serves as an introduction to genealogy and archival research and how to navigate silences in the archive went it comes to histories of women and BIPOC.
