The Mattatuck Museum is thrilled to partner with the New England Sculpture Association (NESA) for the juried exhibition NESA at the MATT: Learning from the Past. Open to members of NESA, this show encourages artists to reflect on their personal backgrounds in addition to larger histories of craft, politics, and identity. Learning from the Past situates contemporary sculpture within artistic practices ranging from ancient periods to those in recent memory. Featuring the work of artists from the New England region, New England Sculpture Association at the MATT: Learning from the Past is a celebration of the past, present, and future of sculpture.

Call For Art
The Mattatuck Museum invites submissions for the juried show NESA at the MATT: Learning from the Past. This exhibition encourages NESA members to reflect on their personal backgrounds and/or the broader histories of craft, politics, and identity. Learning from the Past seeks to situate contemporary sculpture within artistic practices ranging from antiquity to the present. The Mattatuck Museum welcomes diverse interpretations of the theme that speak to each artist’s unique interpretation of the past and how it informs the present.
IMPORTANT DATES:
June 23, 2025: Submissions open
August 11, 2025: Submissions close
August 22, 2025: Notification of accepted artworks
November 4-21, 2025: Drop off/shipment window for artworks. The Mattatuck Museum will be in touch with accepted artists to coordinate drop-off schedule.
December 14, 2025 – March 8, 2026: Exhibition on view at the Mattatuck Museum, 144 W. Main St., Waterbury, CT
