The Presidential Signatures

Fay Vincent, Waterbury native and Commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1989 to 1992, has generously donated his collection of presidential autographs to his hometown museum in honor of his parents, Alice Lynch Vincent, a Waterbury native, and Francis T. "Fay" Vincent, Sr. From the founding fathers to George W. Bush, Vincent's important collection of rare presidential signatures were executed by many of these American leaders while they were in office. They provide a fascinating glimpse at some of the official acts and personal communications of our nation's historic leaders. Items range from a passport signed by both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, to a military appointment signed by Abraham Lincoln, to a Christmas card sent by George H.W. and Barbara Bush with a photo of their children including "Georgie" and "Jebby". The Mattatuck Museum is thrilled to present this significant collection.
