Convergence
Meditations on American Landscape
Guest curator Jennifer Terzian has chosen paintings by artists in the Mattatuck’s permanent collection, and teamed them with fifteen works by seven artists to explore contemporary landscape painting as a continuum of American art practice and a vehicle for cultural/social expression. This juxtaposition explores the scale and authenticity of conceptual contemporary landscape through an exchange of ideas with artists from the early 19th century to the present day. The viewer is encouraged to compare and contrast artistic practice, relate contemporary life and experience with historical imagery, and make connections with the collection.
