100 Years of Presenting Art

A Celebration of the Museum's First Exhibition

Organized in 1877 as a historical society, the Mattatuck Museum presented its first art exhibition in 1912. Impressionist and tonalist artists including William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, George Inness, Willard Metcalf and Robert Reid were among the artists included in that initial show.
