Music @ The Matt: Joe Flood Band
Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Flood has traveled a long musical road. He has played with tap dancers in New Orleans, Cuban musicians in Key West, and gypsies in France and Italy. Karen Schoemer writing for the New York Times remarks, “Songs bursting with eccentric characters…a voice that perfectly straddles the fence between country and the blues…” Light food and cash bar. All level adult artists (18+) are invited to the Museum’s drop-in life drawing session. Led by Post University art instructor Sheri Schwartz, the Museum will provide a nude figure model for a class devoted to exploring the fundamentals of capturing the figure, including chiaroscuro, gesture drawing, portraiture, proportion, and fore-shortening. Artists are invited to bring their own drawing materials and equipment. Short exercises and demonstration for the first 30 minutes followed by 2.5 hours of the model posing.

Commemorate the Flood of ’55 with a tribute to Rosalind Russell who premiered The Girl Rush in Waterbury just before the area was devastated by the flood. The 85-minute film stars Russell as Kim Halliday, the museum receptionist gambler who relocates from Rhode Island to Las Vegas to revive an old family-run hotel/casino.

Founded in 1910, the American Boy Scouts was patterned after the British organization that had formed two years earlier. Over the years uniforms, merit badges, equipment, and publications have been revised numerous times. This exhibit is a comprehensive overview of the history of the organization and shows how the Boy Scouts have changed since the forerunner organizations, and in each decade since its founding. This extensive collection has been assembled by the Segerstrom family of Baltic, Connecticut.

Once a month the Museum is joined by a professional Story Teller who brings the characters to life and takes toddlers (ages 3-5) on an artistic journey. $3 per child. Follow Cassie as she takes us on a tour of her home, neighborhood, and school. The bright colored pages, illustrated by Faith Ringgold, attract young readers as they learn the alphabet. Afterwards, toddlers will use colorful fabrics and crayons to create their own word quilt.
