With an Artistic Vision: An Ophthalmologist looks at the Arts

Presented by Vincent P. de Luise M.D. This talk is in two parts, each 45 minutes in length.
Part I (June 18): Dr. De Luise will discuss what is beauty and the brain science of beauty, visual archetypes in the history of art and the various types of perspective, the camera obscura and camera lucida.
Part 2 (June 25): Takes a deep dive into optical illusion in art looking at Arcimboldo, Escher and del Prete, and the synesthesias- especially music-color synesthesia in the works of Kandinsky and Messiaen, concludes with a survey of Color and Art focusing specifically on Seurat and the science and art of Pointillism.
In order to participate, we recommend that you download the Zoom app on a laptop or tablet before the presentation and get into the Zoom room a few minutes early to address any technical problems. Registered participants will receive a link with the meeting URL via email.
