Pop-Up Talk on Moshi, Tanzania with “Mama” Alice Mikony
August 29 @ 6:00 pm
Meet “Mama” Alice Mikony from Moshi, Tanzania, she has been a teacher at Longuo Primary School for the last 16 years. Join her and Mattatuck members Ed and Nancy Schuler to learn about the way the children and families live in Tanzania. The children are hungry, the schools are without electricity, there is no running water, and there aren’t any toilets, but “their spirit and culture is beautiful” says Ms. Schuler. Their families and religion are their center of their universe. The Schuler’s traveled to Moshi to volunteer at Longuo Primary School. In their own words, “We were not prepared for the poverty that we experienced at the school.” “We were also not prepared for the warmth and friendliest of the Tanzanian people.” Mama Mikony will bring articles to share, such as African blankets, jewelry, African dresses, Maasai blankets, Maasai Wraps and more.
