Event Navigation

Celebrate love and rock ‘n’ roll @ The MATT with an exhibition opening reception celebrating two new exhibitions: Rock and Revolution: Photographs by Jim Marshall and Partners: Claudia DeMonte and Ed McGowin. The reception is free and open to the public. Remarks will take place at 2:00 p.m.

Rock and Revolution: Photographs by Jim Marshall features photographs that explore the counterculture of the 1960s. Marshall photographed rock icons including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Brian Jones, providing a nuanced look of some of the great figures of music history. It sheds light on Marshall’s talents for revealing the essence of his subjects from celebrities to everyday people. This exhibition demonstrates Marshall’s quietly intimate style, a merging of fly-on-the-wall observation and portraiture, all captured using his trusty Leica. Rock and Revolution: Photographs by Jim Marshall will be on view @ The MATT through April 22, 2018. The exhibition is supported in part through a gift from Brass Axe Capital to underwrite exhibitions in the Munger Room.

Partners: Claudia DeMonte and Ed McGowin is a duo show with works by married artists Claudia DeMonte and Ed McGowin. He is a laconic Southerner from Mississippi, she a verbal spitfire from New York. She is a feminist, he is a social commentator, both believe in affecting social change through the visual arts. This exhibition joins works by each artist in a provocative and witty installation of mixed media sculptures and paintings. Partners will be on view @ The MATT through April 22, 2018. The exhibition is supported in part through a gift from Raymond Learsy to underwrite exhibitions in The Lab.

Visitors are also invited to a tour of MIXMASTER: Juried Members Exhibition at noon. Enjoy the works as a docent takes you through the variety of methods and mediums on view. The tour is free for Members and $7 for General Admission.
